Call for Posters

NGIS 2017

 

The Nevada Geographic Information Society invites you to participate in the poster contest at this year's conference. Submissions will be judged in three categories: Artographic, Cartographic and Smartographic. Awards will be given for 1st and 2nd place in each category for professional submissions; student submissions will be judged to 1st and 2nd place; People's Choice will be judge to 1st place. All conference attendees will be able to cast a vote for their selection of the People's Choice Award. A Certificate of Participation will be given to all entries. Map displays will be located throughout the vendor area during the conference. Share the results of your work and show us your creativity!

 

 

Poster Submissions

 

  • Open to registered conference participants only
  • Maximum poster size: 48"x48"
  • Entry forms due by 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2017
  • Walk-in posters are welcome if space is available
  • Drop off posters at the conference registration booth by 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Poster Entry Requirements

 

Each poster entry must include the following:

  • Title
  • Contestant Category
    • Professional - any person currently working in the field of GIS
    • Student - any person currently taking GIS classes who has never been employed as a GIS professional
  • Poster Category (see descriptions below)
  • Author(s)
  • Agency, company or educational institution
  • Abstract - provide a brief description of your poster in 250 words or less. If you have a Smartographic entry, please describe your analysis process here.

 

Poster Categories

(All poster categories are open to both professionals and students)

  • Artographic - The winning poster in this category will show the greatest conformance to the standards of art and satisfying aesthetic requirements of visual presentation of GIS information.

  • Cartographic - The winning poster in this category will convey its information most effectively, with clearly identifiable and focused cartographic elements displayed in a graphically pleasing manner and drawn at an appropriate scale and accuracy level.

  • Smartographic - The winning poster in this category will display the best use of analysis while utilizing visual elements effectively that present the analysis process, and showing arguments for soundness of method(s) used. Entry should clearly demonstrate to the viewer the reason(s) why a particular analytical process was chosen.

 

Judging and Awards

 

Contestant posters will be judged the first day of the conference. Posters submitted by students will be displayed and judged separately from posters submitted by GIS professionals. Awards will be given out during the closing luncheon. All poster contest participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

 

People's Choice Award

 

Attendees can show their appreciation of the poster entry. One poster (or set of posters) having the most votes from conference attendees will win this award. One ballot per conference attendee will be allowed.

 

Posters should be retrieved by the end of the conference.
